Subsequently he was promoted to Leasing Consultant where the fires of his dynamic leasing skills soon fanned across three communities. Soon thereafter Russ' innate ability to lease apartments in steady rhythm landed him the position of Leasing Manager and eventually he became the company's leasing ace as he was assigned the logical task of roaming about to fix troubled Southern California properties. Once Russ had the company's distressed properties back on track, he settled down to manage Oakwood Torrance, a 248-unit community, then Oakwood Long Beach, a 356-unit community and finally a 1,156 luxury community in Toluca Lake, California. One of Russ' biggest challenges was yet to come. Russ was asked to trouble shoot Oakwood in Alexandria, Virginia. At the time, the 1,524-unit community had 346 vacant apartments and another 286 becoming available in the next thirty days. Russ' skill set was put to the ultimate test as he took the challenge. Through a lot of hard work and certainly some ingenuity, Russ led the staff in a leasing-tsunami that lasted ten weeks. When it was over, 610 apartments were leased and Russ asked for a day off. R&B opted to make him their new Assistant Director of Marketing. Within this newest position, Russ helped initiate what is today known as the R&B Corporate Apartment program. He also became heavily involved in acquisition, as well as started up the 9,000,000 square foot commercial portfolio acquired by R&B in the late seventies. He was eventually promoted to Vice President and Director of Training for R&B. While he had some magnificent successes with R&B, Russ still yearned to focus his energy and skills toward motivation and leasing. He left the firm in 1983 to form his own company and has been building outrageous success for companies across the country ever since. His training and consulting programs continue to remain on top because they're timely, practical and work pro-actively. Most of all, they deliver a discernible return. Much of Russ' success may be linked back to his extensive and hands-on background in multi-family. He truly knows what community staffs are up against because he's been there. With the advent of web based technology Russ felt the industry was in for a historic transition that would impact the multifamily across the board. In 2000, Russ took a position with MRI/Intuit to guide the development of their web based residential property management solution. During this time Russ amassed significant knowledge on how the industry has changed based on the development and implementation of this new product. Working closely with industry giants like Equity Residential, ArchstoneSmith, ConAm, The Dolben Company, Village Green, Mid-America Communities, Post Properties, Julian LeCraw, Home Properties and many more, Russ has helped define the change management process necessary to help organizations large and small make the transition to this new environment. In keeping with Russ’ long-term philosophy increasing bottom-line ROI through people and process is the hallmark of this new direction. In 2006, Russ left MRI/Intuit to once again work directly with clients through his consulting practice. Using his 33 years of experience in the industry Russ is helping clients achieve significant increases in productivity and value to their assets. Whether he's speaking to on-site personnel, multi-site managers or marketing teams, Russ is the forerunner in income-focused strategies for apartment leasing, marketing and management operations. Each seminar is packaged in style and wit. Russ' candid and personable approach to training makes concepts easy to grasp, and simple to apply. On a broader scope, Russ is an established icon in the industry through his work with the nation's top organizations. He is often featured as a speaker for national events, as well as regularly contributes articles to the industry's leading publications. His contributions include: · BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE NATIONAL APARTMENT ASSOCIATION · CHAIRMAN OF THE NATIONAL SUPPLIERS COUNCIL · SEMINAR COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN FOR THREE NAA ANNUAL CONFERENCES · NSC MEMBER OF THE YEAR · MEMBER NATIONAL MULTIHOUSING COUNCIL · Teaching faculty of the National Apartment Association Education Institute |

He knows multi-family like the back of his hand, and he should. Russ Sandlin is the definitive authority in high-level strategies and training for the multi-family industry. For over three decades Russ has teamed with owners and managers across the nation. A large part of Russ' success stems from his first-hand knowledge of managing successful apartment communities. The Russ Sandlin story begins in 1975. It was then that Russ made his quiet, yet extremely effective debut in multi-family as Maintenance Supervisor of a 624-unit property in Marina Del Rey, California. There he managed a crew of twenty for the R&B Realty property and supervised in-house maintenance over tasks ranging from painting, apartment turn-over, and refinishing three stories of clubhouse floors to on-going facility upkeep. One of Russ' greatest feats has to be when he and his crew delivered twenty-two units for move-in and moved all of the residents in within the course of a single weekend; an astounding record by any measure. |
